Viral video clips seemed to capture Jones making an obscene gesture toward opposing supporters, but Jones maintains he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“It was regrettable. It was essentially an interaction with our fans out in front of us,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
Jones additionally clarified that the signal was completely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I just showed the incorrect finger,” he remarked. “The action was inadvertently done. This is sincere. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. But it got corrected pretty quick.”

This is not the first time an NFL owner has been fined for misconduct. Previous examples include:
- Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at fans in early 2024.
